Random Cricket Thoughts

This blog is about the sport of cricket. I'm Alan, a Californian now living in France, so my perspective on cricket is a bit unique.

This is Funny

I have to say, though, for the honor of my country, that there are a few Americans who understand the concept of a 5-day match which ends without a result (even though we do like results here in the U.S.). God Bless America, and I wish we could have diverted a bit of the rain from Hurricane Katrina and sent it off to arrive gently in London this coming weekend.

He's right about the French, though. My fiancée is the only French person who seems to know anything about what's going on with the Ashes, and I think she'd prefer not to know. :-)

Best of luck. What could be more British than a victory parade in the rain at Trafalgar Square celebrating a cricket series which ended in a rained-out draw?
;-)

Since you introduced your fiancee here, I think she has a right to answer. Each time we get the chance to speak toghether, I get the highlights from you about England/Australia (no way to escape from them ;o). Since I spent some serious time watching cricket with you at Lord's and Trent Bridge (yes, I did!), I have the right to wonder how people can spend hours, days, weeks, drinking beer, stuffing themselves with huge quantities of food (what could they do else ?) and reading tabloids, waiting for this long, slow game to come to a (kind of) end. Personally, I have more fun spending several hours in a Museum or reading a book (at least, I feel like I learn something).
So, there are hobbies of all kind for all kind of people and passions.
Speaking of the hurricane Katrina, which you mention in your post, I suggest you begin a blog about what's going on in the US under the present (and former)presidency. It would be interesting and useful to read some opinions about it by an American citizen... Critiques are easier from another continent...
By the way, God bless America - and all the other countries, if you don't mind ! (reference to a quote by Michael Moore).

There she is folks, France's #1 cricket fan. ;-) I'm a lucky man.

As for becoming a political blogger, I don't see what I can contribute that isn't already out there. Just go to http://daoureport.salon.com/ and watch the annoying obligatory ad, and then you'll get a summary of all the day's best American political blog postings, with liberal ones on the left side of the page and conservative ones on the right.

Anyway, this blog is about cricket, which is a worldwide phenomenon. Cricket occasionally becomes entangled with political issues (e.g. the long boycott of South African cricket during apartheid, recent Indo-Pakistani cricket diplomacy, and of course England's issues with playing in Zimbabwe), but I don't want to bug readers here with American politics.
